My Thrifty Treasures #3

I was out shopping at my favorite store and I found this!!!

A Wok box! I see these a lot, but this time I decided that I wanted to buy it and make it a little cute box for my pantry to put my potatoes in. So for $3 I got my new box...
I bought some stain and a nice staining brush. I decided on Rust-Oleum Early America stain... at first...

Took out the ugly, cheap rope.
And began sanding the heck out of that thing to get all of the writing off. I love this sander I got.
I'm not an expert at sanding however...
This is what it looked like right after I stained it.
And then this is what it looked like after it was all dry. How ugly!

So I decided to go back to the store and get a darker stain. This time I got Rust-Oleum Kona and very lightly applied it, making sure not to cover the whole surface, because I really wanted the other color of stain to show as well.

After it dried this time it looked perfect and now it was time to make a cute rope for it. I used 6 pieces of jute.
Pushed them through one of the holes.
Then I split the strings in half and tied them three times super tight.
I then pulled it tight to the box and cut off the excess strings.
 I Then braided it.
Then I pushed the other end into the other hole until the braided part of the string went through.

Then I tied that end three times right up to the braid.

After that, I pulled it back against the box and cut of the excess strings.

And... HELLO! Beautiful, beautiful little box. I absolutely love it!
It will now go in my pantry and I can slide it open and put my potatoes in it! :o)
